FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is there a fee to participate in The Gourmet Golds?
No, this is a free display. It is offered to you as a valued exhibitor at The Gourmet Housewares Show.

How do I submit my products for the Gourmet Golds display and for judging in the Gourmet Competition?
All exhibitors are invited to participate in this free display/competition opportunity by submitting an online application.

Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation message acknowledging receipt of your application. Then, prior to the Gourmet show, you will receive an acceptance letter with detailed instructions. All items are pre-screened by GLM's staff and if there are any questions about your product, we will contact you at least 2 weeks in advance of the Show. Please note that all communications regarding the display and competition are sent via e-mail.

What is the difference between the Gourmet Golds Display and the Gourmet Golds Competition? Basically, None!
The Gourmet Golds Display is an exhibit which features goods that are new to the market and is available for viewing during all show hours. This display also serves as the judging arena for the Gourmet Golds Competition, and all goods on exhibit are judged by a panel of industry experts with the awards announced at the Show's Opening Night Party. Merchandise must be show within the Gourmet Golds Display to be considered for the Gourmet Golds Competition.

What types of items are featured within the Gourmet Golds Display for competition purposes?
There are generally two types of merchandise on display:
A) item that consists of one product (i.e. blender, coffee maker, cutting board or garlic press) or
B) items that consist of a set (i.e. pans, cutlery, glasses, kitchen textiles or stacking bowls). Please limit all sets to a maximum of 3 pieces. Traditionally, the strength of this exhibit is its ability to present a large variety of items ranging in different design styles, scale, dimensions and weight.

I have an item that was debuted at another event.  Can I still be eligible for the display and competition judging?
We prefer that your submissions are new to the Show-and to the industry. However, we realize that some exhibitors participate in other markets during the year, and as such, you are allowed to feature an item/set that has launched at a prior event within the same calendar year. We support any promotion which gives importance to your product debut or re-launch at The Gourmet Housewares Show.

How are items shown within the Gourmet Golds Display and Competition Arena?
Your one item or set of merchandise will be displayed professionally.  Merchandise is not shown behind protective glass cases. However, all merchandise is guarded for 24 hours during show dates. We do not have walls or ceiling surfaces from which to hang merchandise. If you have merchandise that requires vertical display, such as a wall-hanging spice rack, we encourage that you create a display unit that will stand on a table, and will show the item displayed in vertical position.

How are my items identified within the Gourmet Golds Display and Competition arena?
GLM will assign each item/set a uniform gallery card crediting company name and booth number. All gallery cards are physically attached to the merchandise with a clip that will not damage merchandise. Please note that the pre-printed gallery cards will have the company name and booth number which matches the company name that is on your contract.

Is there a size or quantity restriction for the items within the Gourmet Golds Display?
Though most items are within the same scale (i.e. blender, coffee maker, cutting board, garlic press, pans, cutlery, glasses, kitchen textiles or stacking bowls). Generally speaking, there is not a size restriction; however, if you have a large item or series of items, please contact us in advance of the Show.

What happens to the photos submitted with my display application?
GLM uses application photos for two reasons:
A)
to screen all items submitted by exhibitors; and
B) to gauge the general inventory of goods for display accommodation purposes. If we have a question about the size or quantity of your product, we will call at least 2 weeks in advance of the Show. If you feel your item is exceptionally large or needs special display attention beyond showing on a horizontal surface, please alert us to your products display requirements when submitting your application. Photos submitted with preliminary applications are not used as part of the judging process and will not be reproduced without exhibitor permission.

What if I don't have digital images of my product to enter using the on-line application form, but would still like to enter to the Gourmet Golds Display to be considered for the Gourmet Golds Competition?

What if I cannot drop off my product during the requested hours?
If you cannot drop off your pre-approved item(s) to the display site in person, you may drop off your items early at The Gourmet Housewares Show office. Items being dropped off after the day before the show will be accepted. However, GLM cannot guarantee the prime placement for items being dropped off after this time. Please do not pre-send items to the Las Vegas Convention Center or to the GLM offices, as samples cannot be accepted.

What happens to my product after the Show closes?
You are welcome to pick up your product from the display site at the close of the Show. All appropriate items not retrieved by 6:00PM on closing day will be donated to a local charity.

When does the judging take place and how am I notified if my product wins?
Judging takes place during the opening day from 9:00AM until Noon. A panel of judges walks the display and scores products on a scale of 1-10. Products receiving the highest score are presented with the "Gourmet Golds Award" during the Opening Night Party.  Winning products are marked within the display with either a special sign or ribbon. Winners are mentioned on the www.thegourmetshow.com website and in a press release which is distributed to key trade publications. All items remain on exhibit for the Show's duration. Photos submitted with preliminary applications are not used as part of the judging process, but are used to gauge the general inventory of goods for display accommodation purposes.

Who serves as the panel of judges?
The judging panel consists of a combination of trade and consumer press editors and industry professionals. GLM staff members and freelancers who are hired to install the Gourmet Golds Display are not judges.

What qualities of my product are the judges looking for?
Merchandise is judged on uniqueness and design innovation.

I have a valuable item; how is the display guarded?
Merchandise is not shown behind enclosed glass cases. Products are displayed so buyers can handle them. Though the Gourmet Golds Display is staffed by an attendant during Show hours and by security guards at night, there is a risk of theft and/or pilferage. As such, GLM does not encourage the submission of valuable articles. If you have an item of value, we recommend that you call to alert us of special display requirements in advance of the Show.

May I drop off literature with my product to be distributed within the display for the duration of the Show?
Products, not literature, are accepted in the display. You can display your press kit in the press office at no cost. (For more information on how to develop a press kit, please visit http://www.thegourmetshow.com/promo/PRGuide.html). GLM also offers a Value- Added Opportunity, which is fee-based, to allow you to display your product and brochures in kiosks in lobby areas. (For more information on kiosks, please visit www.giftwalk.html )

May I show my product in the retail packaging?
Since this display is targeted to the wholesale community, we encourage that you show your product without its retail packaging. Part of the success of the entire exhibit is the ability to show all aspects of the products to buyers within a short period of time and without packaging potentially covering a special feature of the merchandise.
