| FEATURE: Opening Night Party |
Orlando's History Center is the place for this year's Opening Night Party which kicks off the Gourmet Housewares Show on May 8th at 6 p.m. The event is a perfect time to network with others in the gourmet business and celebrate the work of Share Our Strength, the anti-hunger organization.
The History Center, located in the heart of downtown Orlando, is a beautifully restored five-story 1927 former courthouse, and home to the extensive collections of the Historical Society of Central Florida. And for foodies, The Center also hosts a Farmer's Market every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. which along with locally grown fruit and vegetables, also features fresh baked goods from the area's specialty bakers and hand-made crafts from local artisans.
Chefs Catalog’s Tim Littleton will accept Share Our Strength's first ever Retailer Humanitarian Award during the Party on behalf of the work Chefs Catalog has done to support SOS. Chef Rocco DiSpirito will also be on hand as a host of the event.
For years, Chefs Catalog has donated a portion of its proceeds to SOS and has also encouraged its vendor partners to do the same, says Littleton, who is senior VP of marketing for the catalog retailer.
The Party also unveils this year’s Gourmet Gold Award winners which highlight the Gourmet Housewares Show’s breakthrough culinary products.
A percentage of each ticket sold for the event benefits Share Our Strength. Shuttle service to the party is free, and starts running at 5:30 p.m. from the Orange County Convention Center.

THINK GREEN:
Eco-Friendly Marks The Spot |
Though Kermit the Frog sings that "It's not easy being green," buyers at The Gourmet Housewares Show will find that it is easy to shop green.
In order to keep up with the tremendous interest from retailers for environmentally friendly products, The Gourmet Housewares Show is highlighting exhibitors who offer such products with new Eco Friendly Exhibitor Signage. The eye-catching signs target eco-friendly booths: vendors featured include, among many others, Zak Designs, Caldrea, Darnell Design and Gil's Gourmet.
"We had such a great response from retailers who read our green products article in a recent Gourmet 365, that we realized that such a focus on environmentally-friendly products would do those retailers a great service," says Susan Corwin, VP and Show Manager. Corwin says that eco-friendly exhibitor names and booth numbers would be listed in an addendum to the Show directory to help plan those shopping trips in Orlando.
Exhibitors interested in posting eco-friendly signs can check with their floor managers or the Show Office on-site. |
